how does my propane tank sensor work?

The wireless tank sensor is installed on top of your tank by a Superior licensed Technician. These sensors are directly connected to your propane tank gauge and measure the propane levels inside the tank. This data is then sent to mySUPERIOR portal, where you can know your available propane at a glance.

  • If I have a propane tank sensor, do I still need to place propane orders?

    If you are enrolled for Automatic Deliveries, then you don't need to do anything.  We'll automatically begin preparing your order and scheduling your delivery. If you are not on the Automatic Delivery plan, you must place your order manually when your tank level reaches 30%. Your propane orders can be  placed from mySUPERIOR web portal or mobile app, where you will be able to track your delivery, pay for the refill and more. You can also order propane by filling out this form or by calling us at 1-87SUPERIOR (1-877-873-7467). You can also enroll for Auto Deliveries by contacting us.

  • How do I know how much propane is in my tank?

    Go to mySUPERIOR web portal or mobile app. Your tank levels are easily findable from the "overview" tab. Your tank levels are refreshed and updated at the very least once every 24 hours so you can always know how much propane is left in your tank from wherever you are, without requiring a propane tank gauge read.
  • Can I monitor my propane tank level remotely?

    Yes, you can check on your propane tank levels from anywhere if you have a SMART*Tank™ sensor installed on your tank. There are no proximity requirements; you can always know how much propane you have from wherever you are.

  • How often should I have my propane tank refilled?
    On average, propane tanks are refilled twice a year if you are equipped with the correct tank size to meet your usage requirements. Naturally, the frequency with which you need to have your propane tank refilled will depend on a number of factors, including the size of your tank, weather conditions, indoor temperature settings, and the size of your home.
  • What are the benefits of monitoring my propane tank level?

    There are a number of benefits to monitoring your propane tank level. These include:

    • Peace of mind: Knowing how much propane you have in your tank can give you peace of mind and help you to avoid running out of propane.
    • Cost savings: By monitoring your propane tank level, you can avoid having to pay for emergency refills if you are on the Will Call delivery plan.
    • Improved efficiency: By tracking your propane usage, you can identify ways to improve your efficiency and save money on propane costs.
    • Automatic Deliveries: With SMART*Tank, our delivery team can schedule your propane deliveries with plenty of time to ensure that you don't run out, and that your propane order is delivered at the most optimal time to minimize delivery fees.
     
  • What are the safety risks of running out of propane?
    Aside from not being able to heat or power your home, having an empty tank can compromise the health of the tank itself. Keeping an adequate propane level in your tank is crucial to prevent issues such as rust buildup while also preventing the settling of ethyl mercaptan, the odorant added to propane to help with leak detection since propane on its own is odourless. Ethyl mercaptan has a rotten egg-like smell that becomes more potent in tanks with very low levels as the odorant settles to the bottom. The potent smell could be mistaken for a leak.
